The Groundwork Behind Draft Horse

The Prep Work Pre April 27th Launch Date

Draft Horse didn’t begin with a product; it began with an idea, a pace, and a deeper connection to architectural roots and learning about health and wellness architecture.

In a field that often rewards speed in fast deadlines, fast visuals, fast output, I found myself drawn in the opposite direction. Toward something more deliberate, more physical, more rooted in the process of dedicating time instead of a final, rushed result.

The groundwork was laid quietly. Late nights at my drafting table, figuring out the next steps to make this side hustle possible. Early weekend mornings, thinking through lines, weight, and composition, and carrying ideas between the studio, re-reading books during university studies, and park runs with Enzo, where thoughts had space to settle. It wasn’t one moment; it was an accumulation of a year’s work of dreaming up ideas.

Draft Horse began to take place slowly over the summer of 2025, with a central foundation of my dream to one day own a studio space for urban and architectural small-scale projects with a bookstore/art supply retail space. While that dream may be a long-term investment, I decided to turn it into a side hustle while I began my professional work towards licensure. Draft Horse was crafted and officially began to take shape in January of 2026; the next steps began on the website, logo, and the first round of ideas was proposed.

On Process

There’s a kind of truth you only find by hand drafting, opposed to computer drawings in Revit or Rhino. Limitations exist in computer systems, unlike freehand, where ideas on paper are endless. Draft Horse's intentions were built in this rhythm of slow, yet steady work from start to completion.

Architecture prints and urban maps begin as studies—layers of trace, iterations, small adjustments made over time. A facade redrawn in midcentury architecture. A typography map softened to showcase a trail system. Line weights are tested again and again and again...

Nothing is generated in an instant. Everything is worked and reworked with multiple iterations. Until each piece feels resolved in a way Draft Horse is intended to feel.

Over time, the prints started to form a collection of architecture styles, historical references to ideas created by women, and personalized stories on paper through commission options.

Why Now

April 27 marks the beginning of the Draft Horse Studio launch date. A launch into sharing what’s been built over time by architectural studies, prints, and quiet ideas shaped by health, intention, and the built environment.

This launch isn’t a finish line… It’s the start of a network of architectural and urban design ideas beginning to flourish and spark storytelling. It’s also important to acknowledge the historical challenges, advancements, and real-life scenarios that most people don’t recognize in their own cities. This is where the blog comes in.

What Draft Horse Holds

At its core, Draft Horse sits at the intersection of architecture and lifestyle. It reveals how design shapes how we feel, how we move, gather, and observe.

It’s about the quiet details:
The way color makes you feel.
The path you take without thinking.
The spaces that invite you to stay a little longer.

These are the groundwork behind great design, which often continues unnoticed, but deeply felt.

Moving Forward

Draft Horse will continue to explore architecture and urban design ideas through prints, writing, and ongoing studies—eventually expanding into the Print Club launching this June and other exciting collections coming in the fall. But for now, April 27th is about setting the foundation.

One line at a time.
One drawing at a time.
One thoughtful step forward.
